Unveil cultural history and languages of the Ancient Near East

Ancient Near Eastern Languages and Cultures

The minor Ancient Near Eastern Languages and Cultures is for you if you are interested in the cultural history and languages of the Ancient Near East.

You will start with three mandatory classes: one on the archaeology of the Ancient Near East, one on its history and cultures, and one on ancient religions. In the second semester, you can choose between two classes to learn Hebrew or two classes to learn Akkadian, the language of Assyria and Babylonia. Optional is an introduction into Aramaic or a third Hebrew class.

It is as yet uncertain whether Aramaic can be taught in 2024-25. Please contact the coordinator (bas.ter.haarromeny@vu.nl) before 15 August by e-mail if you are interested.
