Environmental concerns are already part of the everyday work of cultural and media institutions. Questions of sustainability, ecological impact, energy use, waste, preservation, and infrastructure shape decisions across the entire creative sector. This field needs experts who can navigate complex topics such as the planetary boundaries of media production, distribution and preservation critically and responsibly. Our programme equips you with those skills.
You will have a strong theoretical foundation that you can use to critically analyse and historically contextualise complex processes and practices at the intersection of media culture, art, and the natural world. The programme will enable you to use a range of qualitative methods to explore aesthetic, technological, environmental, infrastructural and other aspects of contemporary culture.
Our graduates have careers in cultural heritage and policy, archives, festivals, media production, curation, communication, higher education, and research. They bring a set of overarching competencies that are highly valued in the job market irrespective of career: critical thinking, research design and analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex ideas with clarity.
Practical skills may be obtained through internships in various cultural institutions.
