An impactful study in Enschede or Amsterdam

Study Creative Technology at UT or VU

CreaTe is a study where creativity and technology come together to create the smartest technical solutions that contribute to a better society.

During the Bachelor of Creative Technology, you will learn to develop the latest smart technologies to provide our society with solutions that contribute to a better future. In the many projects, you will develop both technical knowledge and skills, as well as expertise on the influence of media and technology on people, design and creative processes. Based on extensive knowledge from computer science and electrical engineering, you will go through the entire creation process: from mapping the demand to making a working prototype and testing it with users.

Amsterdam and Enschede: two different, inspiring environments. Each with its unique offerings and opportunities. The overview below can help you choose the city that suits you best.

AMSTERDAM or ENSCHEDE

University:

  • VU: broad university with a wide range of further education.
  • UT: You will study at a technical university with a specialised range of further education.

Campus and living:

  • The VU campus offers a city within a city; here you will find everything you need to study, play sports and enjoy your leisure time. Personal and small-scale education at a fixed location, but within the dynamic environment of a big city. You study in the middle of Amsterdam: the capital of the Netherlands, full of creativity and culture.
  • The UT campus where you will receive personal and small-scale education. The UT campus has the amenities of a small town: you'll find everything you need to study, play sports and enjoy your free time. In Enschede, room rates are lower than in Amsterdam. You study in Enschede on an American-style campus in the middle of a wooded area, yet close to the city.

Schedule and travel:

  • VU: 80% of your lectures are in Amsterdam, but you will travel a few days a month to the high-tech labs on the Enschede campus to work on major projects.
  • UT: You study entirely in Enschede and make use of the research labs on the UT campus. From the second year, you can choose to take electives in Amsterdam.

Specialisation:

  • VU: The elective course Humane by Design appeals to you. This subject is also open to UT students, but is taught in Amsterdam. Or you can choose UT's specialisation and temporarily move to Enschede.
  • UT: The optional course Interactive Media and Smart Technology appeals to you. This course is also open to VU students, but is taught in Enschede. Or you can choose the VU specialisation and go and live temporarily in Amsterdam.
