What is the works council?
The Works Council has been VU's employee representation since 1993. Through rights of advice, consent and initiative, we exercise influence on administrative decisions, such as reorganisations, the budget, the institution's plan, the VU's governance model and the teaching and research agenda. In doing so, we consider not only the interests of the employees but also the importance for the VU and the quality of education and research. Together with the University Student Council (USR), we meet on overarching dossiers in the Joint Assembly (GV). Whereas the Works Council exercises staff participation at the central level, the subcommittees (ODC) do so at the decentralised level. To this end, the Works Council has established ODCs at all faculties and services in consultation with the Executive Board.
Who are we?
The OR is composed of delegates from the unions and free list(s). The council consists of 25 members.
Every three years, employees can cast their votes for candidates from the union lists or free lists during the co-determination elections.
What do we want to achieve?
We want a VU where there is more room for real employee participation. A VU where employees can make their voices heard and where their voices are listened to.
Where can we be found?
The OR meets twice a month, about half the time together with the University Student Council in the Joint Assembly (JV). About once a month, the OR and the GV meet with the Executive Board. The meetings are public and take place in the Atrium in the Medical Faculty. Meeting agendas can be consulted in advance via vu.nl.
