Culture at VU Amsterdam

VU Amsterdam offers its students, employees and visitors ample opportunities to enjoy art and culture on or around the campus: going to the movies, a theatre show, an exposition and other events.

Art and culture

  • VU Griffioen Cultural Hub

    VU Griffioen is the cultural center of VU Amsterdam, located in the New University Building. In addition to courses, the Griffioen organizes films, music, theater and dance performances and lectures. 

  • VU ART SCIENCE gallery

    Visit the VU ART SCIENCE gallery in the New University Building for exhibitions focusing on the interaction between art and science.

  • Movies at Rialto VU

    Rialto VU is a brand new theater, located in the New University Building at De Boelelaan 1111. With four state-of-the-art screening rooms, Rialto VU not only does contribute to the cultural life on the VU Campus; the arrival of Rialto VU also establishes a great cultural enrichment for local residents in Buitenveldert, the Zuidas and Amstelveen, among others.

  • Art at VU Amsterdam

    You can view works of art from the VU collection throughout the Campus. 

  • VU Choirs and Orchestras

    VU Amsterdam has four music groups: VU Orchestra, VU Choir, VU Chamber Orchestra and VU Chamber Choir. Read more

  • Botanic garden Zuidas

    The Botanic garden Zuidas is a green oasis where there is room for events, culture and relaxation. It houses a very rich plant collection with more than 6.000 species. This small but charming botanical garden contains a greenhouse complex with various climates, a cactus and succulent greenhouse and smaller greenhouses for growing seedlings. The exceptional cactus and succulent greenhouse, houses the largest collection in the Netherlands.
