VU ART SCIENCE gallery

VU ART SCIENCE gallery

The VU ART SCIENCE gallery is open Tuesday to Friday, from 12 to 6 PM. The gallery host is happy to tell you more about the exhibition and the artworks.

The gallery focuses on the interaction between art and science. Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam initiated the gallery, as it encourages the exchange of multidisciplinary knowledge. The urgency and complexity of today’s issues demand radical concepts which allow us to leave conventional paths behind and explore new directions.

Boelelaan 1111
Next to the VU ART SCIENCE gallery, opened in 2021, the NU Building on Boelelaan 1111 hosts VU Griffioen (theatre & courses), Rialto VU (cinema) and cultural café Bar Boele. At the heart of the inspiring university campus VU students and employees as well as visitors and Zuidas residents can meet and enjoy film, theatre, art and science.

Exhibition: On Limits

The upcoming exhibition On Limits explores the experience of limitations and the (im)possibilities of breaking through them. It examines how a society can be formed based on equality and inclusivity.

In response to the artworks, scientists from various disciplines engage in conversation with the artist and the public. This creates a multidisciplinary perspective on how we deal with norms and limitations. The exhibition is also included in A Broader Mind, a multidisciplinary educational programme in which students from VU Amsterdam explore social issues.

The exhibition features work by Lotte Werkema, Eva Spierenburg, Joshua Serafin and Meiro Koizumi.

On view from 18 November 2025 till 1 May 2026
