AI@Work Community

AI@Work empowers collaboration and networking by organizing events to fostering connections between researchers and practitioners.

AI@Work facilitates knowledge sharing, networking, and the establishment of enduring connections across various domains. Through initiatives such as the EGOS Track, researchers engage in in-depth discussions, enhancing their understanding of cutting-edge developments in the field. The KIN Summer Shcool offers a unique platform for junior researchers to refine their areas of interest while forging connections with established figures in their fields and relevant professional networks. Recognizing the importance of creating opportunities for academics and practitioners to interact, KIN Talks serve as a platform for sharing knowledge, igniting debates, and cultivating enduring connections.

The bridge between researchers and practitioners

The bridge between researchers and practitioners

The Reshaping Work Conference, co-organized with the Rotterdam School of Management (Erasmus University), serves as a bridge between researchers and practitioners. Every two years we bring together scholars, business leaders, policymakers, trade unionists, and other relevant stakeholders enthusiastic about shaping the future of work with AI and digital technologies.

We foster knowledge-sharing and networking through diverse channels. Our KIN Summer Shcool offers junior researchers a platform to hone their interests while forging connections with leading figures in their respective fields. Additionally, we (co-)organize impactful events like Reshaping Work conference and KIN Talks, facilitating exchanges between academia and industry professionals. Our researchers are involved in organizing different conferences that help us to be up to date with the latest research in the field.

Tales from the Field: How Smart Algorithms are Changing Work

Marleen Huysman discusses the multifaceted impact of AI, exploring new job opportunities, labor perspectives, business strategies, and other implications of AI on the workplace.

AI@Work upcoming and past events

  • Work & Change in Healthcare Research Jam

Work & Change in Healthcare Research Jam is an event for researchers passionate about work and change in healthcare settings. Throughout the day, various studies are presented and discussed, covering diverse topics from digitalization in the industry to using algorithms for diagnosis and integrating AI in the workflow of healthcare professionals.

The 3rd addition of Work & Change in Healthcare Research Jam will take place on 15th March. The event is hosted by CERGAS - SDA Bocconi School of Management, Bocconi University, and organized with King's Business School. The event is in a hybrid format and can be followed online.

Registration is possible until February, 15th

  • EGOS Colloquium

AI@Worklab researchers with collegues are coordinating a track titled "Digital Biographies: How Algorithms Travel across Time and Space" within the 40th EGOS conference. In this sub-theme we invite scholars to consider how digital artifacts (including – but not exclusively – artificial intelligence and data-driven technologies) emerge and evolve as they travel across sites and over time with fundamental consequences for practitioners, practices and organisations. Specifically, we welcome rich, qualitative studies as well as theoretical, conceptual contributions capturing the influence of digital/algorithmic technologies on a range of organizational topics, including: processes of organizational decision-making and generativity; the spread of theories and technologies and their logics; the dynamics of organizational practices, processes and routines, and many more.

For further insights into the 40th EGOS Colloquium, check the website.

In 2023, AI@Worklab researchers took the leading role in curating a subset of the EGOS conference dedicated to Explaining AI in the Context of Organizations. This dedicated forum invited researchers to explore questions that remain largely unexplored, such as the meaning of Explainable AI within organizational contexts and its potential unintended consequences. Discussions also centered around identifying the actors requiring Explainable AI and whether varying actors necessitate distinct solutions. Furthermore, participants delved into the timing and necessity of AI explanations within organizational practices. By addressing these inquiries, researchers aimed to gain deeper insights into designing Explainable AI that effectively bridges the sociotechnical gap between design and implementation.

  • KIN Summer School

The KIN Summer School is tailored for doctoral and post-doctoral students, pre-tenure faculty, and early career researchers looking to enhance their expertise in theory development and methodologies within the multidisciplinary realm of knowledge, information, and innovation (KIN). The aim is to bolster participants' academic capabilities for conducting and publishing valuable research. This event gathers a diverse group of scholars annually, featuring top international experts in the field. Selection of the 20 participants is based on their alignment with the theme and their research background.

  • KIN Talks

It seems that there are (too) little moments where academics and practitioners meet. The concept of KIN Talks is simple: sharing knowledge, firing up a debate and foster enduring connections.

Each KIN Talk features a dynamic lineup of one or two captivating speakers, attracting a diverse audience that includes researchers, practitioners, and enthusiasts alike. These events offer a stimulating hour-long interactive talk, followed by valuable networking opportunities. We guarantee an engaging and thought-provoking experience that is sure to ignite meaningful conversations!

Check the upcoming KIN Talk event on our Meetup page.

  • Reshaping Work Conference

The world of AI is maturing with the experts debating the vision on how to apply it responsibly and what are the consequences of AI, algorithms, and digital platforms for business and society.  During World AI Week, AI@Worklab researchers participate in the Reshaping Work conference (co-organized with Erasmus University and Rotterdam School of Management) to help bridge the gap between science and industry. Researchers, policymakers, workers' representatives, technology companies, and businesses meet to discuss the future of artificial intelligence and the platform economy.

The Conference is organized by a KIN PhD alumni Jovana Karanovic. Reshaping Work features a meticulously curated program, offering a diverse array of activities that facilitate dynamic idea exchange. Attendees engage in roundtable discussions, interacting directly with field experts. Panels led by academics, corporate representatives, and policymakers provide insights into emerging trends and issues in their respective domains. Reshaping Work brings together the competency of experts while giving space for discussion, allowing attendees to expand their networks within their fields.

Reshaping Work 2024 is focused on AI at work and will take place on October 23rd and October 24th 2024.
