The Amsterdam Transition

Animal-Free Innovations in Education working group aims to gain a better understanding of the current education on New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) and the transition towards animal free innovations in science. We are emailing you as Directors and coordinators of relevant study programs across the BETA faculty of the VU Amsterdam.

We have created a short survey for coordinators and lecturers to gain a better understanding of what is currently being taught in terms of non-animal/animal free alternatives. We kindly ask if you would you be willing to complete it as well as share it with colleagues across your programs? Your support is greatly appreciated!

The survey can be found here: https://vuamsterdam.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3DzZcHjMSewSSeq

We kindly ask that the survey is filled out by the 11th April 2025. Anonymized data will be used internally and the figures used as part of our wider outreach, but more specifically at our Amsterdam conference on the 3rd April and at the 13th World Congress in Brazil

The transition from animal experiments to animal-free innovations is a major development in biomedical science. While these innovations are playing an increasingly important role in research, significant challenges remain in developing optimal non-animal models. Proper education on this topic is essential to prepare students and future scientists for these upcoming developments. To achieve this, The Amsterdam Transition – Animal-Free Innovations in Education working group is mapping where education on animal experiments and animal-free innovations is already included and where valuable additions could be made.

Of course, if you have any questions or would like us to explain the Amsterdam TPI in more detail, please do get in touch. You can read more about the TPI here:
