USRN staff development workshop 2023

Registrations are now open for the USRN Staff Development Workshop, hosted by VU Amsterdam from 24 to 26 September 2023. The workshop dates are synchronised with the EAIE international education conference in the Netherlands.

Every year one of the members of the University Social Responsibility Network (USRN) hosts a staff development workshop for the network. This year's workshop theme is Cultivating A Broader Mind. VU Amsterdam is committed to taking responsibility for people and the planet through values-driven education, research, and knowledge transfer. We warmly invite university colleagues and staff from USRN member institutions to join us in exploring how we can create university communities that foster open-mindedness, encourage academic expansion, nurture personal growth, and inspire meaningful engagement with the world around us.

"After years of virtual meetings, we are delighted to announce that we can finally gather in person this year. Our aim is to harness the richness of diversity within our network, creating an environment that sparks inspiration and enthusiasm. Expect to leave the workshop with a renewed sense of motivation, armed with fresh ideas that will invigorate our universities and empower the USR Network."
Miranda Choy, Senior Manager USRN office, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

USRN staff development workshop program

Sunday 24 Sep, 4-6pm: City walking tour by Amsterdam Underground

Amsterdam Underground is a city walking tour cooperative, that provides the walking guides with a means of income but also serves as a platform for personal growth and self-reliance. During the walk you will get a unique perspective of the Amsterdam city center through the eyes of someone who was once homeless and struggling with addiction. The guides share their personal stories, revealing how they survived in the hazardous environment of the Amsterdam Red Light District up until their journey to recovery. The initiative aims to foster greater understanding and empathy towards (former) addicts, while combating the stigma they face on a daily basis.
