Become active in student participation!

Last updated on 30 October 2024
There are many ways for students to have a say in university policy. Will you make your voice heard?

Find out below in what ways you can become active for student participation.

How do I become active?

  • Become a member of the University Student Council (USR)

As a member of the University Student Council (USR), you may advise on VU policies at the central level. In addition, you even have the right of consent on some topics. To become a member of the USR, you must stand for election during the Student Council elections.

  • Become a member of the Faculty Student Council (FSR)

As a member of a Faculty Student Council (FSR), you help advise on the policies of your faculty. You also have the right of consent on some issues. To become a member of the FSR, you must stand for election in the Student Council elections.

  • Become a member of your Programme Committee (OLC)

As a member of the Programme Committee (OLC), you help advise and decide on the specific details of your study programme. Every study programme at VU Amsterdam has an Education Committee (OLC) consisting of both lecturers and students. To join the OLC, contact the secretariat of your faculty.

  • Contact your student-assessor

Every faculty board has a student-assessor. This is a student who advises the faculty board on faculty policy, both solicited and unsolicited. Would you like to get in touch with your student-assessor? Or would you also like to become a student-assessor? Then contact your faculty secretariat.

  • Join the Public Meetings

Every participation body holds Open Meetings (OV). At these meetings, as a student, you can raise issues that you think the council should address. The council may then bring the issue to the Executive Board (CvB) or faculty board on your behalf.

  • Join the Student Union (SRVU)

SRVU is the student union of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and is committed to promoting the interests of all students. Besides having regular contact with various stakeholders within VU Amsterdam, SRVU also offers legal aid and manages the StudentenD0k.

Within SRVU, you can become active both as a board member and as a committee member.
Would you like to know more? Then check out SRVU's website!
