This session takes place from 14:00 until 15:00. Language: English.
Sustainable change is not just about numbers, policy, and technology. According to Jan Rotmans, leading transition expert, and Bernice Notenboom, climate journalist and polar explorer, finding meaning is just as important. How can we ensure that we not only understand what needs to be done, but also feel the urgency and take action?
In this session, Rotmans and Notenboom share both personal and scientific insights into the deeper meaning of the climate transition. Rotmans, deeply moved by a recent spiritual experience at the North Pole, advocates for a fundamental reconnection with nature. Notenboom draws on her own experiences as a polar explorer to show how the vulnerability and power of nature can deepen our understanding of climate change.
Aniek Moonen, former president of the Young Climate Movement, also joins us. From her experience with young people and climate policy, she argues that for young people, climate change is anything but a distant memory. They feel urgency, but at the same time fatigue. How do you keep hope alive without being naive?
Drawing on his international experience as an economist and climate consultant, UNSDSN president Jeffrey Sachs puts Jan and Aniek's stories in a global context. What does real systemic change require of our economic thinking? How do we turn hope into structural policy?
Optimism and meaning can be the key to real change. Come listen, get inspired and shape your own perspective on the climate transition.
