Why did you choose this programme? The CMA in general, and why the CMA at the VU?
I was already considering a postgraduate programme and found the CMA very suitable for my ambition of one day becoming a Controller or CFO. The VU offers a schedule that fits well with the needs of professionals, excellent study materials, and strong support from the programme leader, Brigitte. I am glad I chose the VU to guide me on my path towards obtaining the CMA, and I would recommend the programme to anyone wishing to continue their studies.
How do you look back on the programme and lectures?
In addition to gaining extensive and in-depth knowledge in the field of accounting and finance, there was also a very positive and relaxed atmosphere that made studying much more enjoyable.
How do you apply the material covered in the programme in your work? What has the programme brought you?
A few months ago, my role within the company changed. I took over responsibilities for budgeting and forecasting, as well as cost management and analysis topics that were covered in part 1 of the CMA programme. My perspective has shifted I now focus more on business models, value creation, and how financial decisions affect operations. Every decision within a company has a financial impact therefore, I no longer see accounting as merely reporting, but increasingly as a tool for decision-making.
Are there aspects of the programme that particularly stayed with you or that you valued most?
Absolutely. First of all, I gained greater confidence in pursuing my career thanks to the deep knowledge I acquired. The CMA has changed my way of thinking from reactive to proactive. Fortunately, I am already applying the decision-making tools in my new role.
