International conflicts

Freedom for some people is practically a given. Yet, others sometimes fight their entire lives to attain it. The Russian invasion of Ukraine has put us all on edge. What does scientific research teach us about war, corruption, political violence and conflict? And what can we do about it?

What are the causes of tensions between regions, countries and citizens? How can we mitigate or counteract them? And what do the increasing number of cyber attacks mean for world peace? Researchers at VU Amsterdam examine the question of how we can work together on a national and international level to safeguard our security and peace. Which strategies are effective? Does diplomacy pay off? Are sanctions and muscle-flexing effective? And does distrust already tell us what we need to know or are discussions useful?
