Today we see increasing conversations on decolonization because of the work of grassroots activists and communities pushing for institutional changes, which resulted in formal apologies from several Dutch institutions for the history of slavery. However, the subject of reparations remains ignored in mainstream conversation. The magazine will present a manifesto for reparations that came as a result of two yearly conferences on reparations which aims to become a conversation starter on global reparations, connecting the magazine to ongoing academic work and including a reflection article on the coloniality of academia and universities in the Netherlands. The question is, how can academia be in service of communities working on decolonization and reparations? The magazine will also be showcasing 5 years of Aralez’s work within community-driven projects related to the subject of decolonization and reparations. Aralez is a pan-decolonial network & grassroots organization based in Amsterdam. We aim to have the magazine ready by March 2025.
