Between North and South: Perspectives on climate mobility

In recent years, the debates concerning climate change-induced human displacement (climate mobilities) have shifted from viewing it as a linear process, with climate change as the trigger of human mobility, to recognizing the complex and shifting power relations that shape these two factors. Climate mobilities are concerned with social relations and dynamics that produce and distribute power among those affected by climate change and their capacities and (un)willingness to move.

This research is part of the Co-Creation for Inclusive Knowledges Lab

Robert’s project proposes a new exploratory partnership between different stakeholders. In the coming months, Robert will meet with critical scholars from the Global South and North who have experience in development studies, disaster studies, development, environmental governance, and inclusion. These exchanges aim to;

  1. Build a network with other engaged scholars and, through their experiences and networks, connect with individuals and groups directly affected by climate mobilities (local communities, activists, etc.).
  2. —Learn first-hand experiences and best practices regarding climate-mobilities-related work in European and Latin American contexts and the multi-perspectives and tensions involved.

This partnership will be formed along with preparing a research grant application that will address power dynamics at the intersection of climate change, community resilience, climate (in) mobility, the priorities of (until now understood as) experts and the space for co-creation practices.
