Embargo master’s thesis FSS

Last updated on 7 February 2024
If a student conducts research within a particular organization for the purpose of the thesis, that organization cannot necessarily be granted an embargo on the publication of the thesis; after all, scientific knowledge should be accessible, verifiable and cumulative.

See also Article 7 of The FSS Master's Thesis Regulations.

An acceptable alternative to confidentiality of thesis publication is the use of pseudonyms or other means of anonymization. However, if an organization considers anonymization insufficient, but the research nevertheless serves an academic and/or educational interest that cannot be realized in any other way, the student may submit a reasoned request not to have the thesis included in the university library (UBVU). The student should submit this request for embargo to the examination board at the start of the thesis research and it must be supported by a positive advice from the thesis supervisor.

All information for students can be found here.

If the examination board agrees to the student's request for embargo of the master's thesis, the thesis will be placed (possibly temporarily) "under embargo" in the University Library's thesis archive. Theses in the thesis archive can be viewed only by support staff in the faculty education office. However, the student-provided abstract will be shared publicly.
