Upload BA thesis
If your bachelor's thesis has been assessed with a passing grade, you 'upload' the thesis to thesis database of the university library (explanation can be found here).
The FSS Bachelor's Thesis Regulation is the framework for the bachelor's thesis that students write in the final phase of their Bachelor's programme.
Upload MA thesis
- If your master’s thesis has been assessed with a passing grade, you 'upload' the thesis to the thesis database of the university library (explanation can be found here).
- The master’s thesis is publicly available in the database. Only in special circumstances is it possible to place the thesis under embargo, in which case it is not public. Please find more information at 'Embargo master's thesis'.
Embargo Master thesis
If you are conducting research for your master's thesis within a particular organization, that organization cannot simply be promised embargo on the publication of your thesis. This is because scientific knowledge should be accessible, testable and cumulative. An acceptable alternative to confidentiality of the publication of your thesis is the use of pseudonyms or anonymizing. Thus, check first whether you can make use of pseudonyms or anonymize your thesis before you make a request for embargo.
If an organization considers anonymisation insufficient, but the research nevertheless serves a scientific and/or educational interest that cannot be realized in any other way, you should submit a reasoned request not to have your thesis included in the university library (UBVU). This request for embargo must be submitted to the examination board at the start of your thesis research and must be supported by the thesis supervisor.

Please note: only complete forms, including the supervisor's advice, will be considered.
Completion instructions:
- On the form, in the box behind "what is the subject of your request in one sentence" indicate: request embargo master's thesis;
- Provide a clear justification for your request for embargo in the box after "what is your question". Also indicate what the embargo period should be (e.g. 1, 2 or 3 years or for an unlimited time).
- Attach your thesis supervisor's advice, in pdf or word, to your request for embargo.
If the examination board agrees to your request for embargo, your master's thesis will be included (possibly temporarily) 'under embargo' in the UBVU thesis archive. Please note: it is mandatory to upload your thesis and an abstract of it in the University Library's (UBVU) thesis database. A thesis placed under embargo is not publicly accessible. However, the uploaded abstract will be shared publicly and thus must not contain any sensitive information.
