Recognize and understand complex social systems

Masterclass Systemic Leadership in Academic Education: Moving from Within the Invisible Dynamics

Do you encounter complex situations full of uncertainty, tension or sometimes even conflict? Or do you experience conflicting loyalties from your different roles as educational leader, teacher or scientist? Do you want to gain insight into how to create clarity and movement in your situation?

Then this masterclass might be for you. In this highly interactive program we alternate theory with practicing together. You examine (your own) cases and try out new interventions. You will think with each other and gain new insights, also through the cases of the other participants.

You learn to recognize the characteristics of complex social systems and to understand their invisible dynamics, and you get an eye for recurring patterns in your immediate work environment. You will learn how to respond adequately from a systemic perspective.

For whom?
Participants have experience in pulling projects and/or guiding a team. It is an in-depth program for people who have completed the Educational Leadership Course (ELC), or are functioning at this level.

This course is open to participants inside and outside of VU Amsterdam.

Outcome
At the end of the program you will be able to:

  • to see from the typical system characteristics the effect of invisible dynamics on you and your work environment
  • use the dynamics to bring movement to (stuck) situations
  • to act effectively from your (renewed) place in the system
