Treasury Management & Corporate Finance

The curriculum of the postgraduate Treasury Management & Corporate Finance programme is designed to meet the current requirements for treasury and corporate finance professionals.

Admission requirements

The minimum requirement is a Bachelor’s degree, with admission tests in corporate finance and mathematics. The vast majority of participants already hold a M.Sc. degree and generally have three years of relevant work experience. 

Applicants with the following background are accepted: 

  • M.Sc. degree in Economics and/or Business Administration
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in Treasury Management and Corporate Finance

These applicants are not required to conduct an admission interview. However, the programme staff is always available to answer any questions about the suitability of your background and the compatibility between your CV and the admission requirements. Meetings are scheduled with most of the candidates before registration. Of course, these meetings do not imply any commitment.

Applicants with the following background may be accepted

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics and/or Business Administration or
  • Dutch HBO diploma (University of Applied Sciences) or
  • Master’s degree NOT in Economics and/or Business Administration

In these cases these applicants are required to conduct an admission interview. Moreover, according to the candidate’s specific background, an entrance exam may be required. This will be discussed with the candidate in the admission interviews. Consequently, the Admission Board will determine the likelihood that these candidates will successfully complete the programme and their decision is final.

Exemptions apply if:

  • You are an alumni with a Dutch RC qualification (Registered Controller). In this case, you do not need to take part in the module Corporate Financial Management and the module Financial and Fiscal Law & Regulation.
  • You are an alumni from the Dutch RA programmes (Registered Accountant). In this case you do not need to take part in the module Financial and Fiscal Law & Regulation.

Practical information

  • Who is the programme for?

    The programme is intended for ambitious treasury and corporate finance professionals in both the commercial and semi-public sector. It attracts corporate treasurers, bankers, consultants and supervisors of corporate finance departments.

    The required profile for prospective students can be described as follows:

    • Multidisciplinary overview of all sub-disciplines in corporate financial management.
    • Thorough technical knowledge of financial instruments in risk management and corporate finance.
    • Knowledge of current developments in corporate capital markets and the range of possible corporate financing options.
    • Detailed knowledge of treasury systems including IT to keep track of fast developments in this field.
    • Skills in the assessment of corporate financial risks and the design of hedging strategies.
    • Skills in corporate security design.
    • In-depth expertise and insights into the legal, fiscal and accounting consequences of choices in treasury solutions.
    • Specific knowledge and skills to run a treasury and corporate finance department.
  • How to apply?

    The application must include this form and the following documents (in pdf format):

    If the application is approved, you will receive a letter of acceptance. In this case, the registration is completed and the payment conditions outlined below apply

  • Tuition fee

    The tuition fees amount to € 22,500 for the 6 modules of the programme starting in 2023 (including a registration fee of € 800).

    The costs of the programme cover

    • The lectures
    • The examinations, and if necessary one resit
    • The use of VU Library and study facilities at VU Amsterdam
    • Food and drink

    In the event of exemptions the total fee of €22,500 is reduced by € 3,000 per exempted module.

    In the event of one exemption (Dutch RA) the fees amount to €19,500.

    In the event of two exemptions (Dutch RC) the fees amount to €16,500

    The fee for an entrance exam is € 300

    The tuition fees do not include the costs for the mandatory books (approximately € 800). The books are made available at the start of the relevant module in the VU bookshop in the main building at VU Amsterdam (Boelelaan 1105). The VU bookstore is open on weekdays until 19.00. You can order books (with a discount) through the VU bookstore

  • General payment conditions

    Upon confirmation of registration you will be requested to pay the tuition fee of  € 15.000 for the first year. As soon as we receive the payment, your registration will be complete. You will receive a request to pay the remainder of the tuition fees the following year, upon the start of the modules in September 2024. Of course the amount will vary according to the potential exemptions. 

    The following general provisions apply for the enrolment in the postgraduate programme in Treasury Management & Corporate Finance at the School of Business and Economics at VU Amsterdam:

    • An RT diploma will only be conferred once payment is complete.
    • Administration costs may be charged in the event the full tuition fee is not paid.

    Cancellations of registrations must always be communicated in writing. 

    If a cancellation request is received before 31st August 2023, you will receive a refund of your tuition fees.

    No reimbursement will be made for cancellations after 1st of September 2023.

  • Duration and Time Investment

    The programme has a total duration of 1,5 years and consists of 6 modules. 

    Each module includes 8 to 9 four-hour teaching sessions that take place at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Additionally, you are required to dedicate approximately 10 hours a week for your self-study. In total each module requires approximately 130 hours. 

    Upon successful completion of all the required modules, the title of Registered Treasurer is conferred by the Registered Treasurer foundation.
