Investment masterclass in Artificial Intelligence

AI is no longer optional for institutional investors, it is becoming a source of real competitive advantage.

This two-day Executive Masterclass, developed by the VU School of Business and Economics in collaboration with CFA Society Netherlands, helps experienced investment professionals separate AI hype from reality, and shows how to put it to work responsibly in an institutional investment process. Across the two days you will work with recent case studies of organisations, as well as live demonstrations of AI applications built specifically for investment practice, and leave with a grounded view of what AI can, and cannot yet, do for your organization.

This masterclass at a glance:

  • Programme type: Executive Masterclass (open enrolment, non-degree programme)
  • Qualification / certification: Certificate of Participation; Certificate of Completion available upon successful completion of a short written assignment
  • Next start date: 5-6 October 2026
  • Duration: 2 consecutive days
  • Estimated study commitment: Approximately 30 hours in total, including pre-course reading
  • Teaching schedule: Two consecutive full-day, in-person sessions
  • Fees: €2,350 (standard fee); €2,300 for CFA Society Netherlands members (subject to final confirmation)
  • Language of instruction: English
  • Location: VU Amsterdam campus
  • Cohort size: Small, selective group, with an indicative maximum of approximately 30 participants
  • Entry requirements: Bachelor's degree or higher; typically 5-10 years of relevant experience in institutional investment management

Is this the programme for you?

  • This masterclass is designed for experienced investment professionals, typically with 10+ years in institutional investing, who work at pension funds, insurers, sovereign wealth funds, family offices or asset managers, and who want to move beyond the AI hype to a working understanding of what it can do for their organization.
  • It suits professionals who want to deepen their expertise in a fast-moving field, as well as those preparing to lead their teams or advise boards through AI adoption, from investment committees and asset allocation to governance and talent.

Why choose this masterclass:

  • Learn from hands-on AI use cases, developed specifically for institutional investment practice, not generic technology demos.
  • Cut through the hype: build a grounded, practical understanding of where AI genuinely adds value andwhere its limits are.
  • Learn from science and practice: VU's finance and data-science professors teach alongside practitioners from APG, Deloitte and specialist AI providers.
  • Take an organizational view: leave with concrete insight into the governance, talent and ethical questions of becoming an AI-ready investment organization.
  • Join a select peer group: share experiences with fellow investment professionals facing the same questions, in a small, in-person setting.
