Who is this programme for?

  • Supervisory officers such as the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM), De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB), the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa), the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM), Euronext, the Ministry of Finance, the Association of Securities Owners (VEB) etc.
  • Managers of financial institutions supervised by DNB and AFM, and members of their Supervisory Boards and/or Audit Committees.
  • Managers and professionals of large companies and financial/non-financial institutions, such as current and future Compliance Officers and managers of compliance-related key activities such as Risk Management, Internal Control, Audit, Legal Affairs, Operations, Financial Control, Corporate Affairs, etc.
  • External advisors of the above-mentioned institutions such as accountants, lawyers, management consultants, etc.

Practical Information

  • Admission requirements

    The following admission requirements apply to the postgraduate programme Compliance & Integrity Management:

    • You have a Master of Science or Master of Art (or doctoral) degree from a Dutch or foreign university.
    • You have at least two years of relevant practical experience. We think your motivation is important, as well as the support from your work environment.
    • If you are in possession of a different (Master's) degree than the above, the programme board will decide on your participation. This checks whether a successful participation can be expected based on your knowledge and experience. You will always be invited for an intake interview.
    • The training is intended for participants with a completed academic education. In principle, you will not be admitted with a Bachelor/HBO diploma, unless your work experience, post-HBO courses, relevant (professional) courses, and any recommendations from your employer show that successful participation at an academic level can be expected. You will always be invited for an intake interview.

    Selection procedure
    The programme management ultimately determines whether you may participate in the programme.

    Capacity per module
    Each module has a cap of 30 students. Those registering for the entire programme are given priority over students enrolling in individual modules. Applications are processed in the order they're received. For module students, the key admission dates are after 1 August and after 1 December. To secure your spot, be sure to register promptly!

  • Registration

    To register, click on the blue "register here” button and fill in the form.

    You will then receive an e-mail, requesting you to send the following documents, after which we can process your registration:

    • passport photo
    • copy of passport or ID (not a driver's license)
    • copies of relevant diplomas with transcripts (preferably certified)
    • curriculum vitae

    Register for full programme:

    The registration form and all documents must be submitted by either 1 August or 1 December (digitally scanned) via compliance.sbe@vu.nl. Registration after these dates will only be considered after a telephone consultation. After we have received your registration, we will send you a confirmation. If the programme management finds an intake interview necessary, an appointment will be arranged and communicated to you.

  • Fees

    Full programme

    The tuition fee for the entire CIM programme is set at €19,995  for the academic year 2023-2024, although this is subject to change. This fee encompasses reader and exam charges; however, textbooks are not included. Typically, the expenditure for books amounts to up to €400 for the complete course.

    The fee to following a single CIM module is € 5495.

    The full programme is structured to be concluded within two years. However, should circumstances necessitate registration for an extra year, an additional (annual) fee of €600 will be levied. In the event of retaking an exam beyond the nominal study duration, a charge of €400 will apply, while the fee for thesis or essay submissions is €700.

    Upon enrollment in the postgraduate education offered by the School of Business and Economics, you will be bound by the prevailing general terms and conditions of payment.


    General terms and conditions of payment

    The academic year runs from September to August. Enrolment in the Compliance & Integrity Management programme spans a two-year period. The amount of tuition fees, exam fees, etc. is determined per academic year. For the two-year programme, the year of enrolment determines the amount of tuition fees. By registering, you commit to paying tuition fees.

    Cancellation

    Full Programme

    • Cancellations must always be submitted in writing.
    • If the cancellation is received before 1 September (September start) or 1 January (January start) of the first academic year, the tuition fee already paid will be refunded.
    • If the cancellation is received before 1 January (September start) or 1 September (January start) of the first academic year, half of the tuition fee due will be refunded.
    • In case of cancellations after 31 December (September start) or 31 August (January start) of the first academic year, no refund will be made.
    • Diplomas are only issued if all payment obligations have been met.
  • Start dates

    The CIM programme kicks off either in late August or early September (depending on school holidays) or in early January. In the latter scenario, you will begin with Module 4, proceeding thereafter to Modules 1, 2, and 3. Typically, the schedule comprises (nearly) weekly lectures held from 15:00 to 21:00. All nationally determined school holidays are accommodated in the scheduling.

  • Accreditation / Certification / Title

    After you have completed all exam components of the programme, you will receive the Executive Master of Compliance (EMoC) diploma.

    This title provides for the possibility of entry in a register designated for that purpose. Entry in the register is made with the consent of the graduate. The register of graduates can be found here.

    Module students obtain a partial certificate per module. Obtaining all four partial certificates within a period of 5 years entitles you to the programme diploma.

    Our programme:

    • Is not accredited by the NVAO and therefore does not entitle you to the title Master of Science (MSc) protected by law;
    • Meets the training requirement to be certified by  DSI as a DSI Compliance Professional. After meeting all the requirements of DSI, you will be included in the public register of DSI;
    • Classified by Holland Quaestor, the association of and for trust offices in the Netherlands, as training in which following partial exemption results in a points obligation for 3 years (with the exception of 2 HQ PE points for current affairs).
  • Location

    The lectures are currently offered hybrid (both in class and online). Normally these take place in the VU Main Building, in the Agora rooms on the third floor or at BCN Amsterdam Arena.

    Both the VU and BCN Amsterdam Arena are easily accessible by car as well as by public transport. Please note: costs are at your own expense. At VU Amsterdam, parking spaces are limited at certain times.
