Arrival Weekend | Saturday 6 July

Welcome event*
On Saturday 6 July afternoon (17:00), we kindly invite you to our welcome event where you can meet your fellow summer school participants staying in/near the same accommodation. Location: tba

Summer School Kick-off | Monday 8 July

Morning kick-off and campus tour 
First day of summer school! On this day we will officially open VU Amsterdam Summer School 2024 with all students and staff members. There will be a welcome plenary and a campus tour, so that you can find your way around easily in the upcoming weeks. 

Afternoon Pub Quiz
That same Monday in the afternoon, we will have a social activity to celebrate the beginning of the summer school and where you can get to know your summer school peers. This will take place after classes on/near campus. More information will be announced in May.

On Wednesday afternoon you can choose from thrilling activities in Amsterdam.

Climbing park - fun forest

Adrenaline junkies, this is for you! Want to get out of the city and have a nature adventure? Join this Fun Forest trip where you will enjoy several climbing routes, bungee jump and free fall. This activity also includes a drink at the end.

Bike tour through the Waterland area 

The Waterland tour will take you through almost exclusive scenic paths across a nature reserve. You'll sail by centuries-old picturesque villages, countless brooks and waterways and straight through green pastures. This activity includes snacks and one drink. 

Amsterdam Walking Tour: City of Freedom/Superdiversity

Join us on walking tour with Tour that Matters, a company that contributes to a thriving, sustainable and inclusive city.

Discover the Netherlands | Saturday 13 July

Join us for a day out of Amsterdam and discover what more the Netherlands has to offer! You can choose from the three following day activities:

Zaanse Schans & Cheesemaking Workshop

We will visit the picturesque Zaanse Schans, where we will visit the iconic windmills and traditional wooden houses. After exploring this village, we will dive into the art of cheesemaking with a workshop led by expert artisans.

Intro to Brewing Tour + Dutch games day

Delve into the world of beer as we take you behind the scenes of a local brewery, where you'll learn the fascinating process of crafting your favorite brews. Afterward, immerse yourself in Dutch culture with a fun-filled day of traditional games.

STRAAT Museum

This unique museum offers an insider's perspective on Amsterdam's thriving street art scene. Discover hidden gems and iconic murals, each telling its own story. We will go on a guided tour and after that you will have free time to explore the museum on your own!

Anne Frank Huis

We will start with an introduction given by one of the historians working at the Anne Frank House. After that, you will have time to explore the museum individually with an audio guide.

Closing Event | Friday 19 July

Your summer school has already come to an end! Let's gather for one last time during the goodbye celebratory drinks! After an intense two-week summer course, what better way to wrap up such an experience than by joining your peers and new friends for a one last goodbye event.
