International Support Services

International Mobility offers excellent services and will assist you before, during and after your studies at VU Amsterdam.

Before your studies

The University Campus is the lively hub of the university and you are welcome to pay a virtual visit to get to know the university.
Visit the online campus tour and explore the campus, university buildings and more!

  • Do you have a question for a current student? Are you curious about everyday life in Amsterdam, from our campus to the food, music and events going on throughout the city? You check the Student Ambassadors page to find an ambassador from the programme you’re interested in or from your home country.

During your studies

If you have practical questions about your stay in the Netherlands or if you would just like to talk to someone from International Mobility, you can come by the Global Room (HG1A-36) on the following days, between 12:30 and 13:30:

  • Tuesday (Outgoing Exchange Team)
  • Thursday (Services Team)

The incoming exchange team has a consultation hour for incoming exchange students every Tuesday between 12:30-13:30, at the desk next to the Student Desk (ground floor, main building).

    International Student Advisors

    Is my diploma valid in the Netherlands? Is my previous degree sufficient to make me eligible for admission? How do I prove my English language proficiency? 

    We understand there are many things you might be wondering about. Every faculty has its own International Student Advisor(s), also called ISAs, who are happy to help you during the application and admission process. The ISA is the main point of contact for international diploma applicants until the moment of enrolment.

    The ISA will be your main point of contact and can help with questions about the programme, admission requirements, and specific questions related to applying with an international diploma to an English-taught programme. The International Support Assistants can assist with the application procedure. You will be able to find the contact details of our International Student Advisors and support staff via this link.

  • International Student Onboarding

    Have you been (conditionally) admitted to VU Amsterdam? Congratulations! Your onboarding journey starts now.

    Student onboarding is designed to help you, as an international admitted student, transition smoothly into your academic, social and cultural life at VU Amsterdam. Our goal is to make sure you feel welcome, supported and prepared before you even step foot on campus!

    The Onboarding phase begins the moment you receive (conditional) admission to VU Amsterdam and continues until your arrival in Amsterdam and through the first weeks of classes.

    Semester in Amsterdam

    Semester in Amsterdam is an all-inclusive, non-degree programme for students wishing to study in Amsterdam for one semester or a full academic year. Semester in Amsterdam serves as an alternative to the Exchange Programme at VU Amsterdam. For further questions please book an appointment with us or reach out using this contact form

    Summer School

    VU Amsterdam Summer School offers interactive small-scale courses at Bachelor's and Master's level. VU Graduate Winter School offers a variety of intensive, trans-disciplinary online short courses for Master students, PhD candidates and professionals.     Outgoing exchange students

    During your degree programme, you have the opportunity to study abroad. As an exchange student, you will study at a VU Amsterdam partner university for a semester.   • International services (accommodation, immigration and scholarships)

    Accommodation

    The International Office offers accommodation to international students in the first year of their English-taught degree programme. The number of rooms available is limited so we cannot guarantee accommodation for every student. If you have any questions about accommodation in Amsterdam, please reach out to them using this contact form. Phone appointment: schedule an appointment.     Immigration services

    Our services team assists non-EU students with the immigration process. If you have any questions about the immigration process or the student residence permit, please contact them using their contact form. For phone appointments, click here.     Scholarships

    VU Amsterdam and external providers offer interesting scholarships for incoming Master's students. VU Fellowship Programme (VUFP) is a merit- based tuition fee waiver. It can be combined with the NL Scholarship, meant as a contribution towards costs of living. They are both meant for students from non- EU/ non- EEA countries who pay higher tuition fees.
