Perhaps you have already narrowed your choice down to one or two programmes. Or maybe you have read about a Master’s and now want to know what it is actually like to study it. 

There are different ways to take a closer look. Choose the experience that works best for where you are in your decision. 

Taster Day: try out the programme up close 

Want to experience the programme before making your decision? During Taster Day, the Master’s programme puts together an activity especially for prospective students. You might join a lecture or seminar, discuss a topic with other prospective students or work on an assignment. 

It gives you a closer look at the subjects you will study, the way you will be taught and the academic level you can expect. 

The programme differs for each Master’s. Check the activities page to see which programmes currently offer a Taster Day. 

Student for a Day: join a real day of studying 

If you would rather see the programme as it normally is, spend a day with a current Master’s student. Instead of following a programme created especially for prospective students, you join one or more of their regular classes or other teaching activities. You get to see the programme from the inside and experience what an ordinary study day can look like. 

It is also a good opportunity to talk to someone who is already doing the Master’s. Ask about the classes, workload, lecturers, student life or anything else you would like to know before making your choice. Depending on the programme, you may also get a tour of the VU Amsterdam campus.

Information session: ask the questions you still have 

Already know quite a lot about the programme, but still have questions? Join an online or on-campus information session. Depending on the programme, you can speak to a lecturer, study adviser or current student and hear more about the curriculum, specialisations, admission and what you can expect from the Master’s. 

There is time to ask your own questions too, so you can focus on the things you still need to know before deciding. 

Missed the VU Master’s Event? You can still join an information session. You do not need to have attended the Master’s Event first. 

Not sure which activity to choose? 

Choose a Taster Day if you want an introduction to the programme and a chance to try some of the subject matter yourself. 

Choose Student for a Day if you want to see what a normal day on the programme is really like and talk to a student who is already studying it. 

Choose an information session if you already know the programme quite well and mainly have specific questions you would like answered. 

Whichever you choose, you do not need to have made your final decision yet. That is exactly what these activities are there to help you with.
