Evolutionary Biology and Ecology

Do you want to learn more about the diversity of all life forms? Are you interested in ecology, genetics, molecular biology, animal physiology and behavioural sciences?

Admission and registration

  • Admission

    Third year undergraduate students of BSc Biology, BSc Biomedical Sciences, BSc Earth Sciences, and BSc Health & Life Sciences with a major in Biomedical Sciences from VU Amsterdam, other Dutch universities and other European universities are welcome. All students other than BSc Biology students are strongly recommended to remedy possible knowledge gaps through study of the following material:  

    • Principles of Terrestrial Ecosystem Ecology 2nd ed. 2012 Edition by F Stuart Chapin III , Pamela A. Matson, and Peter Vitousek
    • Essential cell biology 5th ed. 2019 Bruce Alberts
    • Chapters 1 and 6 of Understanding Evolution 2nd ed. 2020. Kampourakis, Kostas.

    Students from other disciplines or universities, national and international, will be considered for admission following successful completion of a total of at least 36 EC in Ecology, Evolution, Genetics, and Statistics. For each of these four subject areas at least 6 EC should have been obtained. An overview containing the obtained credits within each subject area, the title of the courses, and the official description of the course, should be uploaded during the application in register.vu.nl.  

    The minor is open to exchange and Semester in Amsterdam students.
