The study of our planet Earth as a dynamic integrated system

Themes include sedimentology, stratigraphy, structural geology, paleontology, and plate tectonics. You will gain insight into how natural processes shape landscapes through time.

Special attention is given to the roles of climate and vegetation in controlling landscape evolution and Earth’s dynamic surface.

You can even expand your perspective beyond Earth by exploring the geology of other planets.

Overview courses

  • Climate Science

The land, oceans and atmosphere form a coupled system that interact to give a certain climate and type of weather. This course focuses on the interactions between the atmosphere and the oceans.

  • Biogeosciences

Big changes in the biosphere, climate and environment are driven by the interaction of biological and geological processes. This course explores these interactions and also allows you to brush up your academic skills by diving into your own biogeosciences research project.

  • Electives

In period 1 you choose one of the following electives: Geobotany or Isotope Geochemistry.
