Through readings, dialogue and creative engagement, we connect personal development with social responsibility, exploring how love can deepen our understanding of ourselves while inspiring more compassionate and connected communities.
Drawing from philosophy, psychology, sociology and art, this course explores love as both a personal experience and a social force. You’ll engage with thinkers like Erich Fromm and Bell Hooks, while reflecting on your own perspectives and experiences of love. The course invites you to deepen self-awareness, develop intercultural sensitivity and expand your capacity for compassion and imagination.
The course revolves around three interrelated domains that move from the personal to the collective:
- The I: understanding how your own patterns, cultural conditioning, and self-concept shape the way you connect, or fail to.
- The We: the mechanics of close relationship: romantic, friendship, parental, fraternal. We examine attachment theory and what it actually takes to build and sustain connection over time.
- The Other: how love moves beyond the personal into action, collective responsibility, social transformation and what it means to build communities that hold together.
The course culminates in a capstone project: you design and execute a concrete initiative that puts theory into practice. Whether that means redesigning how you show up in your closest relationships or partnering with a community organization like Deep Canvassing Nederland or De Moeder is de Sleutel, the goal is the same: to move from understanding connection to building it actively.
