Bridging Divided Perspectives: Conflict, Conflict Resolution and Mediation from a Multi-Disciplinary Perspective

Do you want to learn more about conflict(resolution) from a multi-disciplinary perspective and at the same time develop skills and insights that empowers you when dealing with conflict? Then this is the course that you are looking for.

Course description

This course focusses on the circumstances under which people are willing to move from conflict to conflict resolution. What aspects offer space to make this movement possible? The course consists of both practical mediation skills training, combined with insights from different disciplines (law, behavioural sciences, social sciences, religion and theology) that offer a deeper understanding of the drivers in favour and against resolving conflicts. What you will learn in this course on conflict(resolution) gives you broadly applicable knowledge and it will develop your skills to resolve conflict on different levels.

Learning objectives

By the end of this course, the participants will:

  • Remember: Identify the key roles and responsibilities of DNFBPs and CSAs within the AML compliance framework.
  • Recognise and describe important theories of, and scientific research on, conflict, conflict resolution and mediation from a multiple-disciplinary perspective. 
  • Generate and discuss new and critical questions about conflict, conflict resolution and mediation.
  • Use/apply mediators’ behaviour (attitude and skills); and provide feedback to (mediators) behaviour of peers.
  • Apply insights of conflict, conflict resolution and successfully practice Mediation (attitude and skills) to address conflict and conflict behaviour in  simulations (role play).
  • Apply successfully oral and written presentation skills to communicate effectively on scientific topics on Conflict, Conflict resolution and Mediation from a Multiple-disciplinary Perspective.

General objective

This course provides a multi-disciplinary approach to conflict and conflict resolution, equipping students with skills and insights to handle conflicts effectively. It explores how various factors like political, cultural, personal, and neuro-psychological influences drive conflict resolution, integrating practical mediation training with knowledge from law, behavioural sciences, and more. The goal is to help students understand the drivers of conflict resolution and apply this knowledge in diverse situations.

Each day begins with morning sessions focused on mediation attitudes, theory, and skills, including instruction, exercises, and roleplays. In the afternoons, lectures by experts delve into conflict dynamics, followed by group discussions to enhance shared understanding and practice newly learned skills.

This course is suitable for anybody with an interest in conflict, conflict resolution and personal competence development in this field.  Master's students, PhD candidates and working professionals of diverse backgrounds can benefit from this course.
