The Diversity Office approaches diversity and inclusion at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam from 4 perspectives: Campus & Community, HR, Education and Research. Intersecting these dossiers is Decolonisation: the efforts of VU Amsterdam to grow and foster awareness about the colonial past of the university, the Netherlands and on an international scale.
Diversity Officer Campus & Community
The Diversity Officer Campus & Community focuses on the student community of VU Amsterdam. The DO C&C stays in touch with various faculties, service departments and student organisations and uses this network to analyse, develop and implement policies. By doing so, VU Amsterdam contributes to an even more inclusive university for our students.
Diversity Officer HR
The Diversity Officer HR works towards diverse personnel and inclusive staff policy. The DO HR focuses on, for instance, alternative recruitment procedures to better recognize talent at entry and adjustments in the working environment to make every employee feel welcome and at home. The DO HR also creates awareness about the various ways in which we can recognize and acknowledge qualities to ensure all talent have full play at VU Amsterdam.
Diversity Officer Education
The Diversity Officer Educations works with faculties and service departments to make education at VU Amsterdam more diverse and inclusive. The DO Education may work on more inclusive student recruitment, an accessible study environment and a diversity-sensitive curriculum. By doing so, VU Amsterdam contributes to a more inclusive learning environment for our students.
Diversity Officer Research
The Diversity Officer Research focuses on inclusive research teams and diversity-sensitive research agenda's. The DO Research makes an inventory of and translates research in order to draw up research policy. This Diversity Office also conducts research in preparation of new policy and to monitor the effects of the efforts of the Diversity Office.
