We pursue structural, diversity-related changes at VU Amsterdam with organisation-wide policy plans, a Diversity Office Strategy Plan and an annual plan.
To work thoroughly, effectively and goal-oriented manner, the Diversity Office lays out their plans in a Strategy Plan and an annual plan. Additionally, VU Amsterdam has put multiple policy plans into effect to tackle obstacles related to diversity and inclusion in the university.
The Strategy Plan of the Diversity Office functions as the thread that guides the efforts of the Diversity Office and as the remote prospect we’re working towards. The goals in the Strategy Plan are purposefully ambitious and work to encourage and inspire us.

In 2022, the Executive Board has put the Colourful Staff Action Plan into effect. The fact is that the diversity among our staff lags behind the diversity among our students. To encourage a diverse staff population, the action plan focuses on inclusive recruiting, working and rewarding.

The Gender Equality Plan is an explicit and concrete measure with which VU Amsterdam works towards gender equality in the university. This policy plan is naturally dynamic, as societal changes require continuous changes in measures.
VU Pride developed a guide for students and staff members who are trans, intersex and non-binary. The guide provides information on topics such as how to update VU Amsterdam on your name and gender, where you can find gender-inclusive toilets and where you can find internal and external information and support.
