About Us

Bringing together climate expertise to accelerate climate action.

Climate change and its devastating consequences, such as increasing natural disasters, loss of biodiversity, and risks to human health, form serious threats felt worldwide. Decades of scientific research confirm this, as has been documented in the latest IPCC report. The call for collaborative action to save our planet has never been more urgent.

However, climate issues are complex and cannot be approached in isolation. As CEC, our aim is to prepare the academic community for regional and national developments, including the ambitious municipal climate plans and the NWO/KNAW climate change initiative Klimaatinitiatef Nederland (KIN).

The Climate Expertise Centre is part of the Amsterdam Sustainability Institute (ASI), a knowledge platform for emerging multi- and interdisciplinary research that provides an inclusive umbrella for sustainability-related research at VU.

"We need to change the whole system at its roots"

"We need to change the whole system at its roots"

VU professor Philipp Pattberg argues that excellent science is necessary to save our planet.

In response to the alarming IPCC-UN climate report, he brings together scientists from various research fields and launches the VU Climate Expertise Centre

"We as scientists have a responsibility to use our acquired knowledge for positive change."
