We want to contribute to solutions for complex social issues such as sustainability and health with fundamental, curious and values-driven scientific education and research, experimental methods and techniques and interdisciplinary collaboration using computational thinking.
Our faculty with its 12 departments is characterized by the combination of fundamentally curious and application-oriented scientific education and research. As a result, most teaching and research is experimental in nature. Another important characteristic of education and research is interdisciplinarity, which manifests itself in collaboration between the various departments of the faculty, collaboration with other VU faculties (in interdisciplinary research institutes, among others) and collaboration outside the VU, with the the Amsterdam University Medical Center on the campus and the Amsterdam knowledge institutions UvA and HvA. Recently, the University of Twente has become an important strategic partner, which fits in well with the experimental education and research of our faculty. It is our ambition to be the technology campus of the North-West of the Netherlands.
