Environmental Health & Toxicology

The Environmental Health & Toxicology section focuses on understanding the impacts of environmental contaminants on human health and the environment.

Our interdisciplinary approach integrates (eco)toxicology, risk assessment, and epidemiology to study contaminants from the molecular level to populations and society.

In the section Environmental Health & Toxicology, multiple disciplines such as (eco)toxicology, risk assessment, and epidemiology are brought together to study the effects of contaminants from the molecular level to populations, ecosystems, and society. We are specialized in contemporary hazard assessment tools, including non-animal models and new approach methodologies (NAMs), for toxicological understanding and risk assessment practices. We improve the knowledge on how chemical exposure affects human health. Especially for exposure assessment and risk assessment, the EH&T section works in close collaboration with the section Chemistry for Environment and Health (CE&H). Our joint expertise and research output are integrated in student education programs at BSc, MSc, and PhD level and make an important contribution to the knowledge needed for informed environmental governance of the most pressing environmental pollution issues now and in the future.
