Banned Books collection

The Banned Books Collection explores literature that has faced censorship, restriction, or removal across different cultures and time periods. This thematic collection is inspired by the international Banned Books Week, which highlights the importance of free expression and democratic access to information.

Why It Matters

Books are banned for many reasons—political dissent, religious critique, social taboos, or simply challenging the status quo. This collection invites readers to reflect on:

  • The power of literature to provoke thought and inspire change.
  • The fragility of freedom of expression, even in democratic societies.
  • The role of libraries and universities in safeguarding access to diverse voices.

What’s in the Collection?

This curated selection includes:

  • Books banned by science
  • Books banned by education
  • Books banned by government
  • Book banned by religion

The physical Banned Books collection can be found in the Library Lounge.
