Dr. Maarten B.T. de Groot is Endowed Professor of Resilient Family Business and Enterprise Families at VU Amsterdam School of Business and Economics. He is also the Director of the VU Center for Enterprise Family Research (CEFR), global business family advisor, and Program DIrector of the Responsible Ownership for Enterprise Families (ROEF) program.

His research on family businesses, enterprise families, family social capital, family identity, wealth preservation and impact considers the role of the family office and the complexities of non-financial considerations of enterprise families. In his research and advisory work, Maarten works with enterprise families globally on strategy, governance, philanthropy, process, and developing next-generation responsible shared owners.
Dr Maarten B.T. de Groot was knighted in the Order of Orange-Nassau by H.M. the King of the Netherlands for his contributions to society by creating global medical research consortia, founding a major fund-raising organization, and helping shape the global research agenda to cure type one diabetes.
De Groot received the 2023 VU Crowds Award for most meaningful vision for the future with the "Unlocking the Power of Impact Transparency project", together with VU Data Analytics student Bas de Groot.
Maarten de Groot received the School of Business and Economics - Impact Award 2023 - in recognition of "truly outstanding work in bridging the gap between Academia and Business"
He received the 2022 Eligius Sustainable Investments Award in recognition of his "multiple decade outstanding contribution to the enhancement of sustainable investing"
