Accessibility Week

Last updated on 6 February 2025
From 7 to 11 October, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam will be hosting the Accessibility Week.

Accessibility means more than removing physical and digital barriers, it is also about mutual understanding and inclusion. VU Amsterdam wants everyone to feel welcome, regardless of background or condition. During Accessibility Week, we organize several events as part of the long-term programme Studying with Disabilities. The goal is to support both students and staff to find their way at VU Amsterdam and to make VU Amsterdam more accessible for everyone!

Programme

The Info Point is coming to you!
Date: Monday, October 7 through Thursday, October 10
Time: 12:00 - 2:00 pm
Location: Monday: Main Building
               Tuesday: MF building
               Wednesday: W&N building
               Thursday: NU Building
Language: Dutch and English

The theme for this year is “an accessible place to work or study,” and we want to hear from you about what that means to you. You can also find out in an interactive way how students with disabilities may experience this. For this occasion, the Info Point will leave the normal office corridor and go onto the VU campus! Not only in the Main Building, but now also in the MF, W&N and NU buildings. Do you have questions about facilities, the course of your studies or don't know where to turn? We'll be happy to help! Would you rather speak to someone another time? You can also schedule an appointment with us directly online

Meet & Greet of Onbeperkt aan de Slag with inclusive employers

Date: Tuesday, October 8
Time: 2:30 - 5 p.m.
Location: MF Building
Language: Dutch

Looking for work but your health makes it harder to find a job? Then during the Meet&Greet you can get acquainted with employers who are open to anyone with an occupational disability.

A Meet&Greet is a place where you can meet employers and talk to them about a possible job. You can tell them what you can do, what you would like and what you need to be able to do that job. These are not job interviews but introductory meetings. So you don't have to worry about not knowing what jobs are open.

In many cases, employers are actually there to customize a job opening to fit you exactly! Participating in the Meet&Greet is free. All you have to do is sign up.

Interested? Register for the Meet&Greet!

Live Podcast: how do we create an accessible work and study place at VU?

Date: Thursday, October 10
Time: 3:30 - 5:00 p.m.
Location: NU Building, Hybrid Studio NU4A51
Language: English

During Accessibility Week 2024 we will give space to students and employees with a disability to talk to us about their ideas and perspectives on the VU as a work and study place. Miranda van Holland (3D and New Connective) will host a live podcast with a small panel of students and employees to discuss what accessibility means to them. There are limited spots for on-campus attendance of the live podcast. We hope to fill the room with people who are curious to hear the voices of people for whom accessibility is not self-evident and who are willing to think along towards possible solutions. The conversation will be recorded and published as a podcast accessible to anyone who is not able to attend.

Interested? Register to attend the recording
