Civinc is a training ground for perspective exchange that involves everyone — not just the usual suspects — connecting different viewpoints and inviting real conversations to understand what's on students' minds and spark meaningful group dialogue. It connects students with different views in a safe environment to exchange perspectives on difficult topics, building mutual understanding without bias, group pressure, or social desirability.
In practice, Civinc is an online program that enables students to respond anonymously to statements. After submitting their responses, students with opposing views engage in anonymous discussions with one another via a chat environment. Afterward, instructors can display the trends in the responses to the statements.
At VU Amsterdam, Civinc can be used as a standalone online application. Its use is completely anonymous (except for the registration of the IP address, which is necessary for the application to function).
