YODA is a SURF application that supports RDM during all phases of a research project: from the safe and easy storage and sharing of data during the research process, to research data archiving and publication. Researchers using YODA will not have to switch across tool for storage, sharing and archiving.
YODA for the researcher
The following features make YODA particularly attractive for researchers:
- It supports the entire research process from data acquisition to publication
- It is suitable for sensitive data (but not for secret data, like for example state secrets or medical files concerning detainees, the royal family etc.)
- It is easy-to-use (web-based, graphical user interface and the WebDAV interface)
- It offers metadata schemes to optimize findability of your research data sets for others
- It enables data publication and the associated minting of persistent identifiers such as Digital Object Identifiers (DOI’s)
- Support for standardized workflows for the storage and archiving of research data
- Flexible integration with iRODS to cater for data-intensive research
Availability
Yoda is currently in a “pre-production” phase as part of the Research Data Support Program in collaboration with SURF and Utrecht University. Other universities like WUR, TUE, UvA, Leiden and EUR are preparing the implementation of Yoda as well. At the VU all faculty research data stewards and the RDM Support Desk have been trained on how to use Yoda, which is an important step in preparing support staff for the Yoda introduction. Mid November a selection of 8 research groups at FGW, SBE, BETA, FGB, and FSW started to use Yoda and give feedback. If the outcomes of this user acceptance test are positive, we will be ready to make Yoda available for all researchers early next year. An explanation on “How to get started with Yoda” will help you bring RDM into practice by then.
