Hey, my name is Vanlallawmkimi (Kimi in short). I am from Mizoram, India but currently living and working as a teaching faculty at Royal Thimphu College in Thimphu, Bhutan. I teach English literature to undergraduate students.
In January 2022, I got the opportunity to be a part of the VU Winter School. I enrolled in the course Research-Creation: Merging the critical and the creative as I knew very little about the topic. The course, under the guidance of Alex Greene was informative and interactive although the entire course was online. Online sessions enabled experts and participants to come together from all over the world and every session was a new learning experience. The course introduced me to the possibilities of integrating creativity into academic works and although I had not thought about using research-creation in my work I am inspired to explore the prospect. What made the course effective was the fact that we were not just taught by one instructor but by many scholars who have used research-creation in their work. The presentations were fascinating and we had plenty of time to interact and ask questions. I enjoyed meeting people from different academic backgrounds and sharing ideas. The readings we were provided before the course commenced prepared us for all the sessions. I particularly enjoyed our exercises on soundwalk. It sharpened my senses and gave me new perspectives on the things I see around and take for granted. The course taught me the importance of creativity and how it can strengthen academic work.
It was an exciting and insightful experience and I am happy to answer any questions you may have. You can write to me at kimi@RTC.bt.
