Sjors Groot, Embedded scientist Team DSM

Alumnus Human Movement Sciences
Sjors received his master's degree in Human Movement Sciences: Sport, Exercise and Health in 2017 and is now working as an embedded scientist at Team DSM.

In 2015, Sjors completed his bachelor's degree in Human Movement Sciences at the Vrije Universiteit. Afterwards, he chose the master Human Movement Sciences: Sport, Exercise and Health. During his master's degree, he did an internship at Team DSM. After completing his studies, he was able to continue working as an embedded scientist at Team DSM.

"As an embedded scientist, you are responsible for collecting data, performing tests, making analyses and developing new analysis methods. What I have learned during my education is mainly reflected in my job in being able to perform and interpret exercise tests. In addition, I have learned to process large amounts of data in Matlab, extract information from scientific publications and to put the physiological knowledge I obtained during my studies into practice."

A tip from Sjors: "Being able to handle large amounts of data through programming (Matlab/Pyhton) is becoming increasingly important in sports."

Even though practical internships are not a mandatory part of the Human Movement Sciences programme, gaining experience in practice is very valuable
