Saskia Duijs

Introducing Saskia Duijs, university lecturer at Amsterdam UMC, specializing in ethics, law, and humanities.

In March 2023, she achieved her doctoral milestone with the thesis 'The Caring Class: Precarization of Paid Care Workers in Long-term Care and Its Relation to Health, an Intersectional Perspective.' Saskia's groundbreaking research illuminates the challenges within elderly care, unveiling the concealed causes of health issues among healthcare workers, such as poverty, racism, and discrimination.

In a unique collaboration with photographer Janine Schrijver, Saskia engaged healthcare professionals and caregivers in capturing their lives and work through photographs, resulting in compelling visual narratives. Based on 153 interviews conducted with healthcare workers between 2019-2021, her findings offer profound insights into the challenges faced by these dedicated professionals.
