Lale Gül

Lale Gül (1997, Kolenkit neighbourhood, Amsterdam) studied Dutch at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Until she was seventeen, she attended a Koran school run by the Milli Görüş Foundation on weekends.

In her autobiographical debut novel Ik ga leven she disputes everything she learned at the Koran school and more. With her book, Gül won the NS Publieksprijs, the Euregio Literatuurprijs voor Scholieren, the Pim Fortuyn Prize and Dutchman of the Year, among others. The film rights have been sold and the book will be published in five languages, including English and French.
