‘Fake news’ exposed?

Interactive session with mathematician Sandjai Bhulai, philosopher Catarina Dutilh Novaes, and communication scientist Ellen Droog

In a year when democratic elections are held worldwide, the influence of misinformation is increasing. Do we have to defend ourselves against this, and if so, how?

Fake news and misinformation are spread both consciously and unconsciously via social media and by politicians, with the aim of influencing public opinion. When artificial intelligence is also deployed, it becomes increasingly difficult to distinguish fake news from real news.

Mathematician Sandjai Bhulai, philosopher Catarina Dutilh Novaes, and communication scientist Ellen Droog examine some examples of fake news and teach you to filter out the real news from the continuous stream of news stories we are exposed to. Discover the truth behind the headlines!

This session is hosted by alumnus Manu van Kersbergen.

Language: English
Time: 6:00 - 6:45 p.m.
Venue: 'Science Live'
