But WHY: Why did you choose to follow Philosophy: Bioethics and Health at VU Amsterdam? How do you look back at your studying time there?
To broaden my knowledge on (ethical) topics in health care and improve communicative- and writing skills. I look back at an interesting, but also challenging time when studying at VU Amsterdam.
Pros and cons: What did you like the most about the Philosophy: Bioethics and Health program? And did you encounter any struggles?
I really enjoyed the variety in the courses, such as medieval philosophy and bioethics. Besides that, this program really helps you to develop your writing- and communicative skills on an academic level. To be fair, I also encountered some struggles. Since I did not have a background in ethics or philosophy, some courses were very challenging to follow.
Personal favourite: What teacher/theory/course/experience you encountered during Philosophy: Bioethics and Health?
I loved “Ancient and Medieval Philosophy”, because it took me through the history of (famous) philosophers and theories.
In or out of (bio)ethics: Are you currently working in the field of (bio)ethics? Why (not)?
Yes, I am still working in bioethics, although part-time. I thought it was very challenging to find a job in the field of bioethics and health. In my opinion, VU Amsterdam or PBH could extend their guidance for students in exploring career opportunities.
Expert tip: What would you advice current or future Philosophy: Bioethics and Health students with a heart for (bio)ethics?
Enjoy it, it is an amazing masters’ program. I am not sure if I would advise it if your goal is to pursue a career in this field, but it certainly is an enrichment to your everyday life!
