He chose the Health Economics and Management specialisation because it combined solid academic training with direct applicability. Courses such as Economics of the Welfare State gave him the analytical depth to understand the design of health systems, while assignments emphasised using data to evaluate interventions. “What mattered most was the mix of analytical skills and practical application,” he says.
Looking back, Bas sees the programme as a foundation for his long-term career. “It gave me the mindset to weigh trade-offs, analyse problems systematically, and support recommendations with evidence. That’s exactly what I need in consulting, and it will remain valuable wherever my career takes me.”
