In a few words, what is your function within FGB?
From the Centre for Teaching & Learning at VU Amsterdam, I assist FGB programmes in implementing the new educational vision. Through the Visible Learning Paths Programme, my colleagues and I work with you to improve the structure and coherence of your programme curricula. In addition, I am an external member of the central examination board and am involved in the development of the writing component in the joint methodology education of the Bachelor's programmes in Psychology and Educational Sciences.
What has been your development path at the VU?
My development path at VU Amsterdam is still short: I have been working at the CTL since October 2023, where I mainly focus on curriculum development, the Visible Learning Lines Programme and assessment. Before that, I worked for over 14 years as a teacher of Language Mastery and Communication Skills at HBO-Rechten at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam (I graduated in Dutch Language Mastery). During that time, I also took the professional master's degree in Learning and Innovation and the flame for educational development and teacher professionalisation went out well.
What are you most proud of?
We are currently conducting research on the impact of the Visible Learning Lines Programme on the quality of training programmes and the long-term collaboration of teacher teams, and it is amazing to hear what fruits are still being reaped a year after the fact.
What is currently the biggest challenge?
VU Amsterdam is committed to educating world citizens: students who are at the centre of society and take responsibility to contribute to the solution of major social issues. What does that mean for the design of study programmes, for didactics and for teacher and student agency in education? #ABMinpractice
And another thing about yourself: what do you do when you are not working?
When I am not working, I like to spend time with my family, friends and family. I recharge from being with others, and from sports: cycling, hiking, playing padel and on the hockey field, where I not only play but also volunteer. I also like to read novels (much less than I like) and listen to podcasts, preferably about politics.
