Research group Educational sciences - theme Evidence-informed practice and policy-making

Evidence-informed policymaking in education uses research and data to shape effective education policies, ensuring decisions are based on proven methods and outcomes. This approach promotes transparency and accountability.

Evidence-informed frameworks provide insights in ‘what works’. In this way, evidence-informed frameworks can inform policies and help policy makers with the implementation of learning opportunities and professional development in education. This theme has close connections with the work that VU researchers do within Amsterdam Education Network (ONA) and within the Ontwikkelkracht growth fund.

Ontwikkelkracht: cocreatielabs

Our co-creation labs within the NGF Ontwikkelkracht program are explicitly focused on generating empirical evidence related to early identification, diagnosis, and effective or promising approaches in education. This work is carried out within Education Lab, a collaborative initiative with Maastricht University.

Onderwijskennisnetwerk Amsterdam (ONA)

Het Onderwijskennis Netwerk Amsterdam offers a knowledge infrastructure aimed at the continuous improvement of primary education in Amsterdam. This is done in collaboration with Amsterdam-based teachers, school leaders, school boards, and other education professionals. For several years, ONA has been explicitly focused on evidence-informed improvement of Amsterdam’s primary education.

Amsterdam Center for Learning Analytics (ACLA)

The Amsterdam Center for Learning Analytics (ACLA) is an academic research group dedicated to improving outcomes in education, clinical practice, and the labor market. A significant part of ACLA’s research focuses on evidence-based education, aiming to translate data and scientific insights into practical applications within educational practices.
