COVID-19 affects our lives in every sense: personal, economic, and societal. The government measures have a big impact, and are constantly in flux. This has major consequences for our mobility. And this, in turn, brings with it new challenges in terms of accessibility, sustainability and the energy transition.
Erik Verhoef’s research looks at the effects of the tightening and relaxation of lockdown measures on the spatial and mobility behaviour of different groups of people. He also considers the impact on transport systems. What requirements does a relaxation or tightening of the rules have to meet? The results will allow government authorities to identify the effects that tightening or relaxing the rules has on mobility. The findings will also shed light on the consequences for long-term goals in urban mobility, such as sustainability, accessibility and the energy transition.
Five postdocs from five universities are carrying out the research in collaboration with regional organisations. The research is co-funded by the Dutch Research Council (NWO) and the Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development (ZonMw).
