Innovative researchers to apply for NWO Take-off 1 grants on a rolling basis

Share
17 March 2026
Researchers can explore the potential and feasibility of their ideas through the NWO Take-off 1 grant. The option to apply on a rolling basis, replaces the fixed spring and autumn rounds. Handy! Because this shortens the turnaround time.

From this year onwards, it is possible to submit applications for NWO Take-off Phase 1 grants (feasibility studies in higher education) on a rolling basis. An assessment round will be held whenever there are sufficient applications pending. These will therefore be grouped into batches.

Shorter turnaround time

This change is intended to ensure researchers benefit from a shorter turnaround time. This increases the chance of gaining momentum as soon as research results lead to innovative ideas. It then makes sense to apply for funding to explore the commercial and technical feasibility of the idea.

Active support from IXA-GO

At Innovation Exchange Amsterdam (VU IXA-GO), we are happy to support researchers with their applications for NWO Take-off 1 grants. In addition to actively scouting for suitable projects, we assist researchers in developing their proposals, drafting a business case and submitting the application. We also help secure letters of support from external parties. Please feel free to contact us!

Please contact VU IXA-GO for all your questions!

We are the knowledge transfer office of the VU and offer support for valorization.
