How can you support students with their writing in this AI era?

24 March 2026
The Academic Language Programme (ALP) has developed two new pages on writing skills and AI with the aim to support lecturers in striking a good balance between dealing with AI and continuing to encourage authentic academic writing skills.

Gea Dreschler, ALP academic director: “Teachers often no longer know whether a text has been written by AI or a student. We want to help them make informed choices regarding writing assignments or other forms of assessment, and make writing assignments less vulnerable to AI misuse.”

The pages Spotting AI writing and Assessing and developing student writing skills in the age of AI can both be found via the ALP Guide: Academic writing in the age of AI.
